Briggs Matheson is a commercial litigator with a broad range of experience representing companies, individuals, and government entities in high-stakes civil and criminal proceedings involving fraud, breach of contract, intellectual property, securities, and complex corporate disputes. He has delivered his clients decisive victories at trial and on appeal in federal and state courts. He has helped other clients resolve disputes early and avoid litigation altogether. Capitalizing on the breadth of his experience, Mr. Matheson works to understand the ins and outs of his clients’ situations to craft litigation strategies that are tailored to their needs.
Mr. Matheson also maintains an active pro bono practice, focusing on civil rights matters.
Prior to joining Parr Brown, Mr. Matheson served as a federal prosecutor in the Northern District of California, where he prosecuted a variety of criminal cases in the District Court and argued several cases before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He also served as a Deputy City Attorney for the City & County of San Francisco, where he successfully litigated a variety of cases in California state and federal courts. Mr. Matheson previously worked at Keker, Van Nest & Peters LLP, where he helped to secure litigation victories for established companies, start-ups, and executives in a variety of high-stakes disputes involving trade secrets, breach of contract, patent infringement, and securities issues.
Mr. Matheson earned his J.D. from Stanford Law School and B.A. from Stanford University. He clerked for Judge Marsha Berzon of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
