Daniel Barnett’s background and experience in contract negotiation and dispute resolution provide the perspective necessary to confront efficiently and effectively the toughest challenges his clients face. Mr. Barnett’s practice includes contract negotiation and commercial, contract, and tort litigation. In construction and development-related matters, he represents owners, developers, contractors, suppliers, and design professionals in contract negotiation and the resolution of payment, defect, delay, acceleration, disruption, mechanics lien, and other construction and development-related claims, including insurance coverage disputes. He works for clients in commercial, residential, industrial, and civil construction. Mr. Barnett also has substantial experience in environmental contamination litigation and in representing operators, joint venture partners, and royalty holders in the oil, gas, and mining industries in a variety of disputes. He has litigated and resolved contract disputes for individuals and entities from a broad cross section of industries including aviation, telecommunications, manufacturing, insurance, and technology.
Mr. Barnett has represented clients in litigation and arbitration in Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, California, Montana, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, and Hawaii.
Mr. Barnett is a member of the Utah State Bar and is licensed to practice law in all Courts in the State of Utah and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the Litigation, Construction, and Energy & Natural Resources sections of the Utah State Bar. He was listed in the 2008-2009, and 2011-2020 editions of Mountain States Super Lawyers, and 2020-2021 by Best Lawyers in America. He was selected by his peers as one of Utah’s Legal Elite in business litigation in Utah Business magazine and has attained an AV Preeminent rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Barnett earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Geology cum laude at Miami University in 1985 before pursuing graduate studies in geology and geochemistry at Dartmouth College where he earned his Masters of Science and his Ph.D.
