Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake Names Dan Barnett of Parr Brown as President

The Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake (www.legalaidsocietyof saltlake.org) today announced the appointment of Daniel Barnett, shareholder at Parr Brown Gee & Loveless (www.parrbrown.com), as president of the board of trustees. Barnett served as vice president of the board of trustees for the past year and has been a member of the board for seven years.

The Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake provides legal representation to individuals in Salt Lake County with family law needs through two principle programs. First, it assists adults and children who are victims of domestic violence to obtain protective orders and civil stalking injunctions from the court regardless of their income. Second, it provides low-cost legal representation for family law cases such as divorce, custody, visitation and guardianships to financially eligible individuals. The organization also provides legal clinics on family law issues for those who choose to represent themselves.

“My involvement with the Legal Aid Society is one of the most important things I do professionally,” said Barnett. “The organization brings about an extraordinary change in quality of life for about 10,000 individuals each year by lifting the threat of personal danger for domestic abuse victims and settling their family law issues.”

Barnett focuses his practice at Parr Brown Gee & Loveless on commercial litigation, construction law and natural resources law. He has been listed among the Mountain States Super Lawyers for four years and was selected by his peers and one of Utah’s Legal Elite in business litigation. 

“Although family law is not Dan’s primary area of practice, he really gets it,” said Legal Aid Society of Utah executive director Stewart Ralphs. “He understands the mission of the Legal Aid Society and why these services are so important. Dan has been a valuable member of the board for seven years and is a stellar leader who can ensure the continued success of the organization as president of the board.”

One of Legal Aid Society’s first activities in its new fiscal year will be the organization’s annual Celebration of Justice over Domestic Violence fundraiser at Little America on Friday, Sept. 14.
