Clayton J. Parr Receives Distinguished Alumnus Award

Parr Brown Gee & Loveless is delighted to announce that Clayton J. Parr received a Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Utah on February 24th.  Each year, the Alumni Association honors four alumni who have distinguished themselves professionally, served the local and national communities, and supported the University in its mission. Other recipients included Gregory J. Goff, CEO of Tesoro Corporation, Brent C. James, M.D., an expert in health care delivery, and Gretchen W. McClain, an accomplished aerospace engineer. Clayton Parr was recognized as a leader in natural resources law.  During his long career, Mr. Parr has represented some of the world’s largest mining and energy companies and has participated in mining transactions around the globe.  After obtaining his law degree at the University of Utah in 1968, Mr. Parr began his legal career with a law firm in Anchorage Alaska.  The two years there were followed by five years as corporate counsel for The Anaconda Company, a major U.S. mining company, in Salt Lake City, Tucson, and New York City.  Since 1976 he has been a shareholder with the Salt Lake City law firm now known as Parr Brown Gee & Loveless where he continues to work Of Counsel.  Prior to his Juris Doctor degree, Mr. Parr received Bachelors and Masters degrees in Geology from the University of Utah.  He also taught Mining Law at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law and served two separate terms on the law school’s board of trustees, including one year as president.  Currently he is a senior fellow at the law school’s Wallace Stegner Center.
